CARBON NEUTRAL SHIPPING

For a different transportation culture

We are renovating a sail freighter from 1911 for emission-free transportation of cargo and passengers. The twin sister ship of the EYE OF THE WIND, built in Hammelwarden near Bremen more than a century ago, will sail the oceans again as SV BRIGANTES in 2019. As a member of the Sail Cargo Alliance (SCA), it will carry coffee, cocoa beans, rum and more between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.

THE  PROJECT

Build with us

We are financing this project through a mix of private investments and crowd-sourcing through co-ownership of the ship. Just like in the past, when farmers, craftsmen, and merchants would bundle their resources and start shipping companies to transport their goods all over the world.

After the restoration of the steel hull by shipbuilder Roberto D’Amico, we will start the second stage of the refit — a community-led reconstruction of the wooden structures and rigs done by an international group of volunteers (under the guidance of professional boat builders, carpenters and smiths).

And as her builder Konrad Lühring used to say, “If it pleases the eye, it will sail well too”

From Meta to Brigantes
